WATLOW INTRODUCES EFFICIENT I/O MODULE, ENHANCES PPC-2000 MULTI-LOOP PID CONTROLLER

ST. LOUIS – Watlow Anafaze recently released its latest digital I/O module, the PPC-2040, which is designed to support a wide variety of signals and offer customers efficient I/O usage. The company, a subsidiary of Watlow known for its multi-loop PID temperature controllers, is offering the module as an accessory to the PPC-2000, a programmable, multi-loop PID controller that has been recently enhanced with new hardware and firmware features.

The new module reflects the PPC-2000's flexible I/O structure. Watlow Anafaze's PPC-2040 card allows users to individually configure each of the 32 I/O points as either an input or an output. Up to two inputs can read high-speed pulse signals. These options allow users to adjust the I/O balance of the module to meet the requirements of each application.

"Too often, users end up with unused I/O capacity and therefore lessen their return on investment," said Bill Kolbeck, general manager of Watlow Anafaze. "The flexible PPC-2040 was created to offer users an efficient I/O module option."

The new module is an accessory to the PPC-2000, which was recently enhanced to offer cascade and ratio control, PV retransmit and remote SP. These features enable users to achieve better control over difficult processes, to interface temperature readings to chart recorders, and/or to control set points from external devices. Other I/O modules have recently been added to the PPC-2000 system analog output, digital input (24 Vdc, 120 Vac) and relay output.

The PPC-2000 was developed as an alternative for OEMs and end users who need multi-loop temperature and sequential control. System designers can now use a single controller that integrates all functions rather than separate single-loop controllers and PLCs from different vendors. The modularized PPC-2000 allows various analog and digital I/O plus control loops to be centralized in one compact unit and programmed as an integrated system. It handles up to 48 control loops. Process data, alarms and digital states are shared among process and logic controls. Designed especially for OEMs who want flexibility and ease of configuring, the PPC-2000 consists of a variety of analog and digital I/O modules and accessories that snap together and mount on a DIN rail.
