ST Assembly Test Services, Inc. (STATS) ip handler has been developed for the multiple testing of integrated circuits (ICs). The technology is aimed at reducing test cost and producing greater efficiency by eliminating a medium of transfer, like tray or tubes, used in standard handlers.
The strip handler is suitable for testing both leaded and ball grid array packages with various tester platforms.
With the strip handler, mass or volume package testing is possible prior to singulation as the ICs are tape-mounted onto strips for simultaneous testing. The process eliminates the need for trays or tubes to hold the singulated ICs. Number of ICs tested simultaneously can range from dozens to hundreds on a single strip. While standard test handlers have a maximum of four to eight test sites, there is no restriction to the number of test sites in the strip handler, if sufficient tester resources are available.
