Pericom Launches Video Decoder Products

New product family raises the bar for performance, features, and integration
San Jose, CA - Pericom Semiconductor Corporation, a leading supplier of serial high-speed connectivity, signal-conditioning and timing solutions recently announced it is launching a new IC product family of Video Decoders. The first new products of the family are being targeted to rapidly growing PCIe-based DVR and video security systems used in government, military, home, and business security applications.
The first 2 new products offer an advanced performance and feature set, and integrate Pericom’s industry leading PCIe technology with advanced 4 and 8 channel video decoder functionality to handle the latest system monitoring requirements. The rapid growth of Web and smart phone based monitoring is driving higher integration of surveillance systems.
“Leveraging our leadership in the surveillance market with our new video decoder technology is a natural integration evolution for us, “said Alex Hui, Pericom president and CEO. “This new product family was designed to raise the performance and value bar for this integration level. We are pleased by key customer response to these new products”.
Addressing a key industry benchmark, Pericom’s proprietary sync tip detection technology can decode a signal across up to 500 meters of coaxial cable for standard NTSC/PAL video signals. This feature enables proper decoding even when the camera connections and cable are of poor quality, thus boosting surveillance signal integrity and reliability. Both the 4 and 8 channel video decoders offer high quality, real time video/audio decoding, and can also support non-real time 8 and 16-channel inputs. They utilize 5-line adaptive comb filters for optimal Luma-Chroma separation, resulting in very high quality digital video output.
Both parts offer a user programmable I2C interface, fully integrated AGC, multiple sample rates, and flexible multiplexing configurability. In addition, the 4-channel version provides stereo audio support. Both new video decoders support standard ‘656’ and ‘422’ video output signals, providing these digital outputs as General Purpose Input Output (GPIO) pins to provide even more application options. All these features benefit the system designer by reducing BOM cost and board space, and improving signal quality and performance.
The video surveillance equipment market CAGR is a healthy 9.5% through 2016, growing to 24 million units, according to In-Stat, July 2012 report.
