Motorola Selects Promis Encore

Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector (SPS; Austin TX) has selected the Promis Encore! Manufacturing Execution System (MES) from Promis Systems Corporation Ltd. (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) for all of Motorola's semiconductor manufacturing facilities, specifically including support for next-generation 300 mm wafer fabs, existing wafer fabs, test operations, and final manufacturing facilities.

Pete Whelan, group manager for Motorola SPS computer integrated manufacturing solutions product management, said that 300 mm "is the latest-generation wafer size, and represents the leading edge in semiconductor manufacturing. The larger wafer size and the process complexity will require a significant step forward in both information and material handling automation. After a thorough review of other available systems, we have decided to work with Promis Systems to engineer the functionality and system availability we require.''

The Promis Encore! software family is an open, configurable set of MES and Automation products that are designed to assist in the management, control, and automation of semiconductor and precision electronics manufacturing. Promis Encore! comprises client/server products that operate independently, together, or with other applications to support an extendable plug-and-play environment.
