Applied Wave Research, Inc. (AWR), a leading provider of high-frequency electronic design automation tools, today announced the immediate availability over the Internet of Microwave Office™ 2002 simulation, layout, and electromagnetic (EM) analysis design suite. Design engineers can download fully functioning evaluation software at www.mwoffice.com/products/mwoffice.html for a 30-day trial period. AWR™ is also announcing additional enhancements to the fully integrated solution that will further reduce design cycle time and increase the possibility of first-time success.

Today's announcement is a significant step in the delivery of AWR's Microwave Office 2002 solution ¾first announced on July 27 www.mwoffice.com/news/press/. "AWR is pleased to announce the availability of the Microwave Office 2002 design suite," said James Spoto, AWR's CEO and president. "Delivering timely, comprehensive, new capabilities in an easy-to-use solution underscores our commitment to help companies increase their engineering productivity with best-in-class products and support."

Reaction to the Microwave Office 2002 announcement from AWR beta users has been overwhelmingly positive. "The fully integrated and easy-to-use Microwave Office 2002 solution speeds the design time of microwave and millimeter-wave integrated circuits," said Dr. Simon Mahon, manager of MMIC Engineering, Mimix Broadband. "With intense time-to-market pressures faced by Mimix, our designers need proven design flows that work seamlessly and Microwave Office 2002 fills this need. In addition, the Microwave Office 2002 product comes with clear and extensive documentation and the support provided is first class."

Enhancements to Microwave Office 2002 Design Suite

The following enhancements have been added to Microwave Office 2002 software since the product's announcement in July:

  • Microsoft Com-based Application Program Interface - seamless design methodologies through design automation and integration to other applications.
  • Discrete Value Optimization - Allows optimization based on realistic design choices, which reduces product cost and decreases engineering effort.
  • Pseudo-Random Bit Stream - Applies real-world digital signals to circuits using advanced harmonic balance simulations.
  • Load Pull Capabilities - Provides automated sweeps of complex source and load impedances and import of measured harmonic load-pull data from test equipment, which allows engineers to design more efficient power amplifiers.
  • Improved Design Rule Checking - 10X speed improvement in design rule checker, plus support for more complex conditional rule statements.

"The additional enhancements to Microwave Office 2002 software will significantly improve the productivity of our customers by reducing the turnaround time for design simulation even further," said Ted Miracco, AWR's executive vice president. "The Microwave Office 2002 product is truly the next-generation solution for high-frequency design." Price and Availability Fully functioning evaluation software is available for download over the Internet at www.mwoffice.com/products/mwoffice.html. AWR will release the Microwave Office 2002 design suite to customers in Q4 2001. The product supports Windows 98, 2000, ME, NT, and XP. U.S. list prices for perpetual licenses range from $5,000 - $44,000 depending upon the simulation capabilities. Microwave Office 2002 software will be a no-cost upgrade for existing customers with valid maintenance agreements. For more information on product pricing and availability call 310-726-3000.
