The new 316 stainless steel 60 Case LinearRace shafting from Thomson Industries is available in two configurations- with Class L PD drilled-and-tapped mounting holes, and without (Class L). The shafting, which comes in diameters ranging from ¼ inch to 2 inches, is non-magnetic, clean room and vacuum compatible. It is ideal for applications ranging from food processing and packaging to pharmaceutical/medical devices, semiconductor and electronic component assembly.

The shafting ensures roundness within 80 millionths of an inch, a surface finish better than 8 Ra microinches, and straightness of 0.001 to 0.002 inches-per-foot.

Designers can achieve extremely smooth, quiet motion when combining the shafting with the new Thomson FluroNyliner bushing bearings that require no lubrication and resist corrosion from strong chemicals such as acids and solvents. The bearing features a low friction PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) liner that can withstand temperatures from –400° F to 550° F. A truly maintenance-free bearing, the PTFE from the bearing liner transfers to the shaft, self-lubricating the shaft and bearing surfaces. The PTFE, which is a dry lubricant, reduces running friction over time, increasing bearing and shaft life. Thomson machines the bearing's inside diameter to one thousandth of an inch, enabling designers to specify the FluoroNyliner bushing bearing with greater accuracy and less running clearance.
