Murata Introduces World's Highest Capacity MLCC With 0603 inch
Kyoto ( BUSINESS WIRE ) - Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TOKYO: 6981) (ISIN: JP3914400001) is expanding its multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) range with the groundbreaking new GRM188C80E107M and GRM188R60E107M models, designed to meet the ongoing demands for miniaturization in servers, data centers and IT applications. The solution is the world's first MLCC to offer 100μF capacitance in a 0603-inch (1608 mm) package.
Across a wide range of consumer, IT and industrial electronics devices, Murata's MLCCs are used as a central component used to temporarily store and release electricity, attenuate noise in signals, extract signals at specific frequencies, and block DC current while allowing AC current to pass. With its compact package, 2.5V voltage rating, low equivalent series resistance (ESR) and impedance, and X6S/X5R temperature classes, the new GRM188 is ideal for decoupling and smoothing circuits in demanding computer and networking applications.
Server and data centers are constantly pushing for miniaturization, increasing efficiency while reducing material usage. As performance and integration increase, the need for components that take up less space and can withstand higher temperatures becomes more important. The momentum for these industrial advances is further driven by demand for improved AI capabilities.
To meet industry demands, Murata leverages its thin film molding technology and a high-precision lamination process. The new GRM188 offers a wide operating temperature range and is the first 100μF MLCC capacitor available in a 0603 package. It enables designers to further advance system miniaturization by reducing the number of capacitors used while reducing the circuit substrate area.
"The GRM188 represents another world first in Murata's MLCC product range, breaking previous boundaries and perfectly matching market requirements," says Hidetoshi Nakagawa, General Manager of Ceramic Capacitor Marketing at Murata. "In addition, this miniaturization not only improves the design of end applications and reduces the number of materials required, but also reduces power consumption during manufacturing, thus providing a double benefit for sustainability."
The 2.5V rated GRM188C80E107M products with a temperature range of -55°C to 105°C and the 2.5V rated GRM188R60E107M products with a temperature range of -55°C to 85°C are already in production and samples are available for evaluation. In addition, the new GRM188 with a rated voltage of 4.0V and a temperature range of -55°C to 85°C will go into volume production in 2025. Please contact us for more details: Contact form
