Sigma II Series With The Indexer Application Module
Yaskawa Electric America, Inc. will introduce the newest addition to its Sigma II servo family, the Sigma II Indexer Application Module at the Westec Advanced Productivity Exposition held March 26-29, 2001, at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The Sigma II Indexer Application Module snaps on to the side of any Sigma II servo amplifier making it a smart amplifier.
The Sigma II Indexer is a compact, cost-effective solution for both machine OEMs and end-users. All servo loops including a position controller are incorporated into a self-contained servo amp/indexer package. It eliminates an index controller to servo amp point-to-point wiring, panel space and the traditional analog elements of a servo amp velocity or torque control command reference.
The Sigma II Indexer can either interface to a PLC or PC-based controller via discrete I/O or serial RS-232c/RS-422/RS-485 link. Each Sigma II Indexer is pre-configured with its own servo steps. When interfaced with discrete I/O, the Sigma II Indexer's dedicated 24vdc I/O is used for sequencing servo commands from a low cost PLC I/O. The I/O interface includes hardware overtravel and home limit switch inputs, permits selection and execution of 32 pre-configured index (PRMSTEP) moves or velocity commands, and are part of a memory table containing up to 128 commands.
The commands in the table may be linked together for sequential execution, providing versatility desirable for many applications. Homing, feed hold commands, in-position signals, conditional events, indexer programmable outputs, etc. can all be used for application sequencing with PLC I/O.
The Sigma II Indexer can also be used with a programmable HMI or host controller, such as a PC with ASCII command capabilities. For example: 1) via RS485, a host can initiate pre-configured point-to-point positioning serially with a global start command or individually address each Sigma II Indexer or 2) during machine set-up, the machine operator or host controller can simply modify the number of loops (batch count) for the required index(es). The serial interface supports 16 Sigma II Indexer drives per link. The Sigma II Indexer interprets and executes motion commands received on its serial interface. All Sigma II Indexer set-up parameters, system alarms and monitors, and program configurations are available for read/write via the serial network. The Sigma II Indexer can be configured for a choice of network speeds (9.6, 19.2 or 38.4 kbaud).
