Russia's Saturn Orders Aixtron GaAs System For Solar Cells Production

Aachen, Germany -- Aixtron AG has received an order for an AIX 2600G3, 8x4-inch to Saturn Joint Stock Company (Saturn JSC) based in Krasnodar, Russia. The reactor is for the mass production of gallium arsenide (GaAs) epitaxial materials for solar cell device structures.

Saturn JSC's representative notes: "The new Aixtron production system is going to quickly provide our new program with a state of the art production platform for solar cell epitaxial materials. Today there is a great need for solar cell panels for applications such as telecommunication satellites. The Aixtron process technology is well established in the industry with most of the leaders in the field of photovoltaics production. In its 8x4-inch configuration the MOCVD system will provide us with high yield with excellent uniformity, performance and reliability."

Dr. Bernd Schulte, Executive Vice President and COO of Aixtron's Compound Semiconductor unit adds: "Having supplied MOCVD systems to Russian customers for many years now we are very pleased to receive this order from Saturn JSC. Our AIX 2400G3 product family of systems is enjoying strong sales worldwide and the new order proves again Aixtron's leadership in MOCVD equipment in Russia. Other institutes have invested in our systems for R&D of materials for satellite solar cells. The Saturn JSC order is the first production volume commercial MOCVD equipment in Russia with the capability for solar cell production".
