SpeedFam-IPEC releases second fiscal quarter financial results

SpeedFam-IPEC Corp. (Chandler, AZ), a supplier of high-throughput chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) systems for the semiconductor industry, announced its financial results for the second fiscal quarter, ended Dec. 2, 2000. Revenue for the second quarter of fiscal year 2001 was $82.9 million, up 49% from $55.8 million in the same quarter a year earlier, and up 11% from $74.7 million in the first quarter of this fiscal year. Revenue for the first two quarters of fiscal 2001 was $157.6 million, up 49% from $106.1 million in the same period last year.

The second-quarter net loss was $3.6 million, or a loss of $0.12 per share, compared with a net loss of $8.7 million, or $0.29 per share, in the same period last year exclusive of non-recurring transactions. The company reported a net loss of $7.6 million, or $0.25 per share, exclusive of restructuring charges for the first quarter of this fiscal year. Excluding restructuring charges, the two-quarter loss was $11.2 million, or $0.37 per share, compared with a net loss of $19.6 million, or $0.67 per share excluding non-recurring transactions, in the same period of fiscal year 2000.

SpeedFam-IPEC is involved in the manufacture of chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) systems used in the fabrication of next-generation semiconductor devices.
